Yoga is a non-competitive, physical activity that promotes self-esteem, compassion and focus. There are countless physical benefits, including reduced risk of injury for young athletes due to increased flexibility.
In addition, yoga increases the ability to concentrate and there is improvement in memory. In fact, studies show students who practice yoga and relaxation have higher GPAs than peers without a practice. Yoga also encourages positive thoughts and self-acceptance which is more important than ever in today's world.
Palm Yoga created YamaYogis so children can have a fun, non-competitive environment where they can be themselves and start to develop skills that will be used for the rest of their lives. All of this is accomplished through a variety of fun games, creative play, classic poses, breath work and meditation.
While having “cottonball races” by blowing air through straws, kids learn that taking long, slow exhales can help to calm them when they feel stressed or nervous. While balancing on one foot in Vrksasana, or tree pose, they learn how important focus can be to maintaining physical and mental balance.
